TSUMEB!!!!!!WHAT MORE CAN YOU SAY?
The Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia, Africa is widely thought of as the premier mineral locality in the world. This mine produced more variety of truly superb minerals than anywhere else in the world. The mine closed over two decades ago. Recently a group purchased the rights to mine for specimens. They have been at it for two years now, but have been having a rough go of it (too much water in the mines etc.). I've seen some of the new material, not what was hoped for, but maybe in the future. In the mean time, this page and the following ones show a host of the old time classics, all collected decades ago when the mines were still in operation. Also, several come from the Heinrich collection, part of which was featured on page 72 of the Mineralogical Record Tsumeb issue (1977).
